With the long and storied automotive history in Germany, it’s not surprising that the world’s foremost test track resides there. What you might not know is that, despite producing some of the best performance cars on the road today, the track record at the Nurburgring Nordschleif doesn’t belong to a German car anymore, but an American.
From Wired Magazine’s Autopia blog:
A General Motors engineer has driven — flogged may be the better word — a bone-stock Corvette ZR1 around the famed Nurburgring Nordschleif in an astonishing 7 minutes and 26.4 seconds, one of the fastest times ever posted by a production car. … With 638 supercharged ponies and a top speed of 205 mph, we knew the ZR1 would be quick, but circling the 12.9-mile ‘ring in that kind of time is nevertheless very impressive. The ‘Vette slays the amazing Nissan GT-R and the 7:29.03 it posted, and smokes the mighty Porsche 911 GT2 by almost six seconds.
Head over and have a look at the video of the entire run, which should be more than enough to get the blood pumping. Congratulations to General Motors for the achievement and for the praise currently being heaped on their new supercar.
Most car dealerships send out postcards for their service department from time to time, whether seasonal or monthly. Depending on how sophisticated the system, mailings can range from a basic set of coupons to personalized service updates. In fact, it almost seems like this is something dealers have been doing forever – or, at the least, a very long time. That’s because they have been.

That penny postcard is from 1928, letting a Model A owner know it’s time for a check up. When’s the last time you sent out something to your customers?
Looks like that Volkswagen-Porsche merger has paid off – U.S. News & World Report announced that VW has overtaken Toyota as the world’s largest automaker. From the article:
The U.K.’s Guardian explains, “Volkswagen-Porsche has overtaken Toyota to become the world’s largest car manufacturer as the German group benefits from state-backed stimulus packages around the globe.” VW has “produced 4.4 million vehicles so far this year, outstripping its Japanese rival which has seen four million cars roll off production lines since January.”
The article goes on to to explain that Toyota actually has a vast production capacity that they’re not using at the moment, but for now, the numbers don’t lie. Now, the question is, how does this apply to you?
Obviously, VW didn’t decide to fold up shop when they found out Toyota had beaten Ford for the title earlier this year – far from it. They turned what could’ve been a negative for them (Porsche’s failed takeover bid) and turned it into a positive (their own takeover of Porsche). Instead of standing pat and waiting, Volkswagen has made a move to better themselves and their sales. Have you been hanging out in “survival mode” and playing the waiting game? Maybe it’s time to take a negative (the general downturn in the automotive industry) and turn it into a positive (the market is wide open now with a more level playing field).
